In attendance will be some bus drivers, students, parents, school board school memebers, superintendent, principals, representatives from the pres, SHP, School Bus Traffic and Safety DPI Transportation Services. All week long other schools will host events such as sending bus drivers cards, certificates, breakfasts, safety performances with "Buster", and decorating School Buses.

Feb 15-19 Monday: announcement of the campaign and “We Love Our Bus Drivers” banner placed outside in front of school and “We Love Our Bus Drivers” displayed on school marquee visible from the highway. Tuesday: present drivers with a certificate of appreciation during breakfast with legislators @ 9:00am (NC House of Representatives Richard Glazier and Elmer Floyd will be in attendance). Wednesday: all teachers will have physically conducted the mid-year review of the School Bus Evacuation procedures with every student and bus drivers will be presented with ‘I love the bus driver because…’ cards created by students in each classroom to write a message to their drivers Thursday: present each bus driver with a gift basket and provide a cake that states ‘We Love Our Bus Drivers” to be consumed during each driver’s lunch period. Friday: assemble staff outside to hold up “We Love Our Bus Drivers” banner and state ‘we love our bus drivers’ as each bus departs the campus (afternoon dismissal).

Month of Feb February is Love The Bus month. We will participate in activities each week of February to encourage student respect for the bus drivers and riding the bus safely. Please see activities below and include time for participation in each of these. Also, during January, we started PBS Gator chomps on the buses. Students receive a bus chomp from the driver when he/she is following school bus safety rules. The students then turn in the chomps to me and I tabulate the chomps for a bus reward. (1)Our first bus celebration was in the cafeteria on Friday, January 31 for bus 119. The students and driver enjoyed cookies together before the ride home. (2)February 1-5: Review our PBS matrix bus rules and have students color the Color Me Safe picture posting in our hallway around the bus door. (You may place the pictures in my box and I will take care of posting or you can put them up in the hallway around your room). (3)February 8-12: Write a Valentine's message to the Bus Drivers using the Valentine Card template placed in your mail boxes. Grade levels will deliver the cards to the buses on designated days - 5th Monday, 4th Tuesday, 3rd Wednesday (includes Rinaldi), 2nd Thursday, K/1 Friday.(4)February 15-19: On February 19, appreciation certificates will be presented to the drivers. In the classroom this week, please include a literacy activity which your students will share with drivers on the 19th. Also, engage in games in technology center or as whole group to remind them of bus safety. Some options are listed below...you may have some of your own. (5)February 22-26 A group of fifth graders has created a bus safety video. All classrooms will view this video. On Friday, the bus with the most February chomps will be rewarded with their driver in the cafeteria at 2:20 (students released early for this). The winning bus number will be given during announcements.

Feb 19 Avery County Schools has declared February as Love Your Bus month. Schools are encouraged to show their appreciation in any way possible. February 19th is Love Your Bus Day!! Each school will honor their bus drivers in special ways.--Cards, goodie bags, banners, pictures .....In addition to this, school bus safety will be emphasized. A feature on the department and drivers will be release to the press and the drivers will be highlighted by name, school and a photograph of the group will be included.
