Month of Feb |
February is Love The Bus month. We will participate in activities each week of February to encourage student respect for the bus drivers and riding the bus safely. Please see activities below and include time for participation in each of these. Also, during January, we started PBS Gator chomps on the buses. Students receive a bus chomp from the driver when he/she is following school bus safety rules. The students then turn in the chomps to me and I tabulate the chomps for a bus reward. (1)Our first bus celebration was in the cafeteria on Friday, January 31 for bus 119. The students and driver enjoyed cookies together before the ride home. (2)February 1-5: Review our PBS matrix bus rules and have students color the Color Me Safe picture posting in our hallway around the bus door. (You may place the pictures in my box and I will take care of posting or you can put them up in the hallway around your room). (3)February 8-12: Write a Valentine's message to the Bus Drivers using the Valentine Card template placed in your mail boxes. Grade levels will deliver the cards to the buses on designated days - 5th Monday, 4th Tuesday, 3rd Wednesday (includes Rinaldi), 2nd Thursday, K/1 Friday.(4)February 15-19: On February 19, appreciation certificates will be presented to the drivers. In the classroom this week, please include a literacy activity which your students will share with drivers on the 19th. Also, engage in games in technology center or as whole group to remind them of bus safety. Some options are listed below...you may have some of your own. (5)February 22-26 A group of fifth graders has created a bus safety video. All classrooms will view this video. On Friday, the bus with the most February chomps will be rewarded with their driver in the cafeteria at 2:20 (students released early for this). The winning bus number will be given during announcements. |
