NCPTA Rolls Out New Training Curriculums For Members
In the fall of 2008 the NCPTA Advisory Council created the Training Committee. The mission for the committee was to look for ways to offer continuing education for members of NCPTA. An emphasis the Committee has focused on for technicians is to offer high quality courses in small groups on products that are no longer under manufacturer warranties the LEA’s are now responsible for. Over the last few months the first series of courses were offered to bus technicians from 19 LEA’s. The course topics were FS-65 Electrical Diagnostics, VT-365 Basic Diagnostics, DT-466E Basic Diagnostics, and CE-200 Basic Diagnostics. Instructors selected are all Factory Certified by the Manufacturers. The courses were one day in length and were each taught to a small group of eight or twelve technicians. In addition a large portion of each course was conducted on the buses with the technicians getting that “hands on” approach. Each of the technicians has completed an exit survey the Training Committee is using to further enhance opportunities to other technicians around the State. Overwhelmingly the technicians attending these courses have stated it was well worth it and hoped the NCPTA will continue to coordinate these efforts. Some of the LEA Directors have also commented positively about the courses based on materials and skills the technicians brought back home.
At the upcoming NCPTA Conference in July these courses will again be offered to technicians in addition to ones such as: MB-906 Advanced Diagnostics, Allison 2000 Diagnostics, C2/FS65 Advanced Electrical Systems, CE-200 Intermediate Electrical Diagnostics, DT-466E Intermediate Diagnostics, VT-365 Intermediate Diagnostics, and an Introduction to Using Laptops for Technicians. On the Administrative side we are offering several specialized courses from the NAPT Professional Development Series, TIMS, and BSIP that will engage people either directly in groups and/or on computers. Once the training curriculum is established our goal is to offer courses for administrative and technicians throughout the year around the State. Take a serious look into these courses this summer – you will be glad you did!!
